about

Jobs along the US Mexico border are often offered to Mexican women who hail from smaller towns deeper in the country. Promises of higher pay and good jobs attract the women who are looking to make more money for their families. What they encounter is usually quite the opposite, as they run into harsh working conditions, long hours and low pay. A lot of these jobs were created via NAFTA as US companies have plants in Mexico. Not only do these woman run into harsh work environments, but they also are often kidnapped, sexually assaulted and left for dead in the deserts along the bus routes to and from work. Rarely are these things written about or publicized and rarely do people speak about it due to the trauma it carries in losing loved ones.
